MITOVIT Hypoxic Training

ABOUT MITOVIT

SAUSPORT represents MITOVIT, providing clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, sports medicine and high-performance centres with an interval hypoxic training system (altitude training).

Through a mask, the user breathes air with reduced oxygen alternating with normal or oxygen-enriched air. It simulates climbing and descending a mountain, at rest and without physical effort. MITOVIT is developed and manufactured by COMMIT GmbH in Salzgitter, Germany, with training and technical support from Sausport.

HOW MITOVIT HYPOXIC TRAINING WORKS

The user lies comfortably with a personal mask. For about 40 minutes they alternate, in intervals of 3 to 5 minutes, between oxygen-reduced air (hypoxia, 18 to 9 %) and normal air (21 %) or enriched air (hyperoxia, 30 %). 10 to 15 sessions are usually recommended, 2 to 3 sessions per week.

Automatic hypoxia test

In the first session, the system determines the individual hypoxic threshold, that is, the oxygen concentration at which saturation falls below 90 %.

Safety

Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is monitored simultaneously by two pulse oximeters that compare the values. Use can be delegated to the technical team, with training included on delivery of the device.

For athletes

Those who want to improve performance can train in hypoxia during moderate exercise (for example, on an ergometer), with oxygen adjusted to 18–13 %.

THREE TRAINING MODES: ADAPTIVE HYPEROXIA

Besides the classic modes, MITOVIT includes adaptive hyperoxia, which adjusts oxygen in real time to each person’s saturation.

Chart of the hypoxia/normoxia mode (IHT)

IHT

Hypoxia / Normoxia

  • Alternates oxygen-reduced air and normal air.
  • In the training phase, saturation drops quickly to the target zone (below 90 % SpO2).
  • Recovery to the initial saturation is slower.

IHHT

Hypoxia / Hyperoxia

  • Alternates oxygen-reduced air and oxygen-enriched air (30 %).
  • The initial saturation recovers quickly in the rest phase.
  • Prolonged hyperoxia can delay the return to the training zone and increase oxidative stress.

ADAPTIVE

Hypoxia / Adaptive hyperoxia

  • Hyperoxia is applied only until saturation reaches the set value (93 to 99 %); then normal air follows.
  • Makes better use of recovery and training time.
  • Reduces oxidative stress and increases session efficiency.

ADVANTAGES OF THE DEVICE FOR THE CLINIC

Biofeedback

User-guided training

Oxygen adjusts to each person’s condition on each day.

HRV

Real-time monitoring

Heart rate variability shows parasympathetic activity during the session.

Safety

Two pulse oximeters

SpO2 recorded and compared simultaneously, with light, comfortable oximeters.

No cylinders

Integrated oxygen concentrator

No oxygen cylinders to replace. Rehumidified breathing air.

Quiet

Comfort and no Wi-Fi

Well-insulated housing, no radiation exposure, for a relaxing session.

Management

Recording and mobility

18.5″ Full HD touchscreen, continuous data recording, unlimited training storage and lockable wheels.

MITOVIT touchscreen

Simple to use

One tap on the screen and MITOVIT takes care of the rest: the programme, the oxygen and the monitoring. The team has less work per session, and the device is available in black, silver and white to fit any space.

Components are replaceable, which extends the service life of the device.

Nobel Prize in Medicine 2019

RESEARCH ON HYPOXIA AND MITOCHONDRIA

In 2019, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to William Kaelin, Gregg Semenza and Peter Ratcliffe for discovering the molecular mechanisms by which cells sense oxygen levels and adapt. In a 2012 publication, Semenza described the influence of hypoxia on mitochondrial function.

Interval hypoxic training builds on this field of research. The decision to use it with each person always rests with the healthcare professional.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HYPOXIC TRAINING

What is interval hypoxic training?

It is training in which you breathe, through a mask, air with less oxygen alternating with normal or oxygen-enriched air. It simulates climbing and descending a mountain, at rest and without physical effort.

How long is a MITOVIT session and how many are needed?

A session lasts about 40 minutes. 10 to 15 sessions are usually recommended, 2 to 3 sessions per week.

Is hypoxic training only for athletes?

No. It is used by doctors, therapists, rehabilitation centres, gyms and wellness centres. Athletes can combine it with moderate exercise, for example on an ergometer.

What is adaptive hyperoxia?

It is a MITOVIT mode in which oxygen-enriched air is delivered only until saturation reaches the set value (93 to 99 %). The user then breathes normal air, which avoids oversaturation and reduces oxidative stress.

How is safety ensured during the session?

Two pulse oximeters measure oxygen saturation simultaneously and compare the values. The first session includes an automatic hypoxia test that sets the individual threshold.

When is hypoxic training not suitable?

It is not suitable in case of acute viral or bacterial infections, acute headaches, intolerance to oxygen deficiency, pregnancy, severe heart failure or acute cancer. Suitability should always be assessed by a healthcare professional.

Does the team receive training to use the device?

Yes. Delivery includes training on operation, the main functions and daily use, plus an instruction video.
